UPDATED 8/1    IN-PROCESSING INFORMATION FOR 8/29 AND 9/6 START DATES
Rad Waste/Decon Technicians starting on 8/29 or 9/6 will report to the Peach Bottom Unit 1 Training Center at 06:00 A.M.

We highly recommend that you arrive for training by the normal access via Lay Road. Atom Road parking at the training center is limited and may not accomodate all the Bartlett techs, let alone all the other crafts starting on those dates. The shuttle buses will start running at 05:30 A.M. They'll pick you up just inside the inner lot area and will drop you off right at the training center. They run all day long, and will drop you off and pick you up at the cafeteria for lunch. Don't forget to bring everything you'll need to complete your inprocessing paperwork with you!

The maps posted below show both the Lay Road and Atom Road accesses. Thank you, we'll see you soon!

RP Technicians (JHP and SHP) reporting on 8/29 and 9/6 will be going to Three Mile Island for up to 3 days of training.

You should report to the TMI South Office Building at 07:00 A.M. on your start date. You'll use the south access road onto the island, and park in the normal contractor lots.
The site will not be paying duplicate living expenses this year, but will pay travel to folks who choose to drive. If you are local to Peach Bottom, but live > 50 miles from TMI and elect to secure lodging in the TMI area, please retain receipts for per diem reimbursement.

For maps of the TMI area, see the TMI blog.
Welcome to Peach Bottom
Bartlett Peach Bottom Information

Welcome to Peach Bottom Unit 3's 18th Refueling Outage. I’m looking forward to working with the returnees, and meeting those of you who are new to Peach Bottom.

The outage is scheduled to begin Sept.11th and last approximately 37 days. The first major layoff will tentatively begin around the end of the second week of October or during the following week. So you may want to use this for planning another job after the Peach Bottom outage. In addition to refueling, there are some rather large scope jobs planned. The Torus painting project and the Turbine replacement project are the 2 big items. Prior to the outage, you will work 5-8’s with the possibility of weekend overtime once you are badged and have completed OJTs. Training days may last up to 12 hours depending on plant needs. During the outage, we will work 2 shifts of 7-12’s.

Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station is located on the west bank of the Susquehanna river on the Conowingo pond in York County, Pa. Peach Bottom is a three unit nuclear generating facility. Unit one was a 40 megawatt experimental High Temperature Helium- Cooled and Graphite moderated reactor. During its seven year life

(1967-1974) unit one provided valuable technical and cost data to U.S. utilities for application in larger plants.

Units 2 and 3 are boiling water reactors capable of generating 1182 megawatts each. Both units began commercial operation in 1974. Peach Bottom is co-owned by Exelon Generation and Public Service Electric and Gas of New Jersey. Exelon Nuclear operates Peach Bottom.

In processing info:

Please report to the Unit 1 Training Center at 6:00 am on your scheduled start date (for those with 8/29 or 9/6 start dates, please see the in-processing update above this post).  The On-site training center is located just south of the plant near the Unit 1 facility. If you are reporting on one of the earlier start dates you may park at the training center which is accessed from Atom Rd. Parking is very limited at the Training center and as more folks show up, the site will supply a shuttle from the main contractor parking area located north of the plant near the LLRW facility, and is accessed via Lay Rd. You will need to park in the outer contractor lots and shuttle to the training center across the intake screen structure. Please allow ample time to be in the training center as approx 1200-1400 contactors are arriving to support P3R18.  Please pay attention to the speed limits and do not cut across open parking spaces.

Important:

You will need 2 forms of ID. One must be a valid photo ID (Examples include a valid driver’s license, a school or government issued ID card along with a social security card or an original/certified birth certificate). A passport is also acceptable.  If your I-9 has expired, you will be asked to complete this form and will need acceptable identification documents.

Senior HP techs must take the Nuclear Utilities Fundamentals Exam (NUF) and pass with a grade of 80% or better, unless you are either NRRPT certified or have taken the NUF within the past 4 years and passed with 80%. NRRPT and prior test results must be verified, so bring your NRRPT certificate with you, or know where and when you last passed the NUF in case it is not recorded in PADS. If we cannot verify your status, you will be required to take the test approx. midweek.

Miscellaneous:

Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided. Your prescription glasses must be ANSI safety glass approved. Steel toed safety shoes are required. Shorts and tank tops are not permitted during training.

Scrubs are provided by the utility and are required to be worn under your protective clothing.  Once on-site, you may wear shorts and flip flops, sandals etc. to and from work if you desire, however allow time prior to your shift to change and be ready for work at your start time.

Please note that there are very few places off site that you can drive to within your 30-minute lunch break during training, but sandwiches are usually available in the training center during peak training weeks.  Once onsite, there is a cafeteria, located just outside the protected area, that serves breakfast and lunch, and once the outage begins, it serves lunch on the backshift.

Bank runs and other off-site errands will be very hard to accommodate during the first couple days of training, especially for non-returnees, as the in-processing schedule for those days is fairly tight.

I am currently on-site and I look forward to seeing everyone. Please don’t hesitate to call Scott at ext.1291 if you have any questions at all.  If you need to talk to me before your start date, they can get you in touch with me. You can also reach me at (717) 456-3242, and thanks for coming to the Peach Bottom outage.

The use of cell phone cameras is prohibited on company property, or company sponsored events.  Any photograping or videotaping on company property, must be in compliance with site security procedures.

Important notes for new hires:  If this is your first nuclear facility here are a few tips to make your training phase flow smoother. If you served in active military duty or discharged within the last 3 yrs and it was considered employment, you must provide a copy of your DD214. You will need names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of all of your employers, within the last three yrs. You will need a list of all of your residences, including addresses, for the last five yrs. You will need to list all arrests since your 18th birthday. You must bring the arresting paperwork and proof of court disposition.  I cannot stress enough the importance of completing all security paperwork as honestly and as straightforward as you can. Omission on your paperwork is reason for termination of unescorted access.

Transportation Requirements:

It is required that each employee has their own transportation. If you have an issue I must know about it at least 2 weeks prior to your start date. If you just show up with this issue, you will risk having a shift issue I can't fix.

Shift preference, requested SDO’s and special requests:  In an attempt to accommodate everyone the best I can, I am requesting that you inform me of any special needs and/or requests. If you are traveling with someone and need to be on the same shift or you have other legitimate requests, please inform me at the earliest possible time of those requests. You can email me at ronald.scone@exeloncorp.com or call me at (717) 456-3242. I will make every attempt to honor your request but as you know sometimes it may not be possible. Schedules are developed weeks prior to the outage and I may be unable to adjust, to meet your needs if I am unaware of them until your report date.
