WELCOME TO PEACH BOTTOM!!

Welcome to Peach Bottom Unit 2’s Fall 2012 Refueling Outage.

My name is Ron Scone and I'm the Bartlett Site Manager at Peach Bottom. We're getting ready for Unit 2's 19th refueling outage this September. I'm looking forward to working with those of you I've worked with in the past, and also to meeting those I don't yet know.
ABOUT THE FALL 2012 OUTAGE

The outage is tentatively scheduled to begin September 10TH, and last approximately 39 days. BNI will bring in SHP techs (ANSI 18.1 & 3.1), JHP techs, and Decon (RW) techs. Ramp-up for the outage will begin late August. Ramp-down will tentatively be mid-October through the end of October. In addition to refueling, there are some 2 large scope jobs planned: the Torus painting project and the Turbine EPU project.

Prior to the outage, you will work 5-8’s with the possibility of overtime once you are badged and have completed qualifications. For those of you reporting for the later staffing dates, training days may last up to 12 hours. During the outage, we plan to work 2 shifts of 7-12’s.

Lodging: For area lodging, click on the links located on the upper left side of this page. See the information on page 2 of this site for travel times to and from work.

Transportation Requirements: It's a requirement that each employee have their own transportation to get to and from work. If you have any issues regarding transportation, I need to know at least 2 weeks prior to your start date. If you show up without adequate transportation, you risk having a scheduling issue that I can't fix.

Shift preference, requested SDO's, and other scheduling requests:  In an attempt to accommodate everyone as best as possible, I need to know about any scheduling needs or requests you might have. If you're traveling with someone and need to be on the same shift or you have other legitimate requests, please inform me at the earliest possible time what your request is and why. You can contact me by email at ronald.scone@exeloncorp.com . I'll make every attempt to honor your request but as you know sometimes it may not be possible. Schedules are developed in the weeks prior to the outage and I may not be able to meet your needs if I'm unaware of them until your report date. Routine scheduling requests will be considered based on the order they're received.

ABOUT THE PLANT

Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station is located on the west bank of the Susquehanna river on the Conowingo pond in Delta, Pa. Peach Bottom is a two unit nuclear generating facility. The address is:

1848 Lay Road
Delta, Pennsylvania
17314

Units 2 and 3 are boiling water reactors capable of generating 1140 megawatts each. Both units began commercial operation in 1974. Peach Bottom is co-owned by Exelon Generation and Public Service Electric and Gas of New Jersey. Exelon Nuclear operates Peach Bottom.

Unit one was a 40 megawatt experimental High Temperature Helium- Cooled and Graphite moderated reactor. During its seven year life

(1967-1974) unit one provided valuable technical and cost data to U.S. utilities for application in larger plants.

REPORTING INFORMATION

Please report to the Unit 1 Training Center at 6:00 am on your scheduled start date. The On-site training center is located just south of the plant near the Unit 1 facility. If you are reporting on one of the earlier start dates you may park at the training center which is accessed from Atom Rd. Parking is very limited at the Training center and as more folks show up, the site will supply a shuttle from the main contractor parking area located north of the plant near the LLRW facility. It is accessed via Lay Rd. You will need to park in the outer contractor lots and shuttle to the training center across the intake screen structure. Please allow ample time to be in the training center as approx 1200-1400 contactors are arriving to support P2R19.  Please pay attention to the speed limits and do not cut across open parking spaces.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

You may need ID in order to complete an I-9 form. This is a form required by the Department of Homeland Security to be completed at the time of employment. You can use a passport, or 2 other forms of ID that are listed on the reverse of the form (Examples include a valid driver’s license or a school or government issued ID card along with a social security card or an original/certified birth certificate).

Know your current year dose or bring your dose estimate records with you. You must be able to provide a lifetime and current year dose estimate, and know where you have received your current year’s dose.

Senior HP techs must take the Nuclear Utilities Fundamentals Exam (NUF) and pass with a grade of 80% or better, unless you are either an active NRRPT member or you’ve taken and passed the NUF within the past 4 years. NRRPT active membership and prior test results must be verified, so bring your NRRPT certificate with you, or know where and when you last passed the NUF, in case it is not recorded in PADS. If we cannot verify your status, you will be required to take the test near the start of your training. The test is administered by computer through NanTel. JHP techs are not required to take the NUF, however if you are close to becoming a SHP and want to take the test, let us know and we’ll arrange for you to take it, time permitting. If you need study materials, there is a link on the outage list page at www.bartlettinc.com, or you can use your own user ID and password on www.nantel.org

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided. Your prescription glasses must be ANSI safety glass approved. Steel toed safety shoes are required. Scrubs, shorts, tank tops or flip-flops are not permitted during training.

Scrubs are provided by the utility and are required to be worn under your protective clothing.  Once on-site, you may wear shorts and flip flops, sandals etc. to and from work if you desire, however allow time prior to your shift to change and be ready for work at your start time.

Please note that there are very few places off site that you can drive to within your 30-minute lunch break during training, but sandwiches are usually available in the training center during peak training weeks.  Once onsite, there is a cafeteria, located just outside the protected area, that serves breakfast and lunch, and once the outage begins, it serves lunch on the backshift.

Bank runs and other off-site errands will be very hard to accommodate during the first couple days of training, especially for non-returnees, as the in-processing schedule for those days is fairly tight.

The use of cell phone cameras is prohibited on company property, or during company sponsored events.  Any photographing or videotaping on company property, must be in compliance with site security procedures.

I am currently on-site and I look forward to seeing everyone. Please don’t hesitate to call Scott at ext.1291 if you have any questions at all.  If you need to talk to me before your start date, he can get you in touch with me. You can also reach me at Ronald.scone@exeloncorp.com. Thanks for choosing to work the Peach Bottom outage!

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR NEW HIRES

If this is your first nuclear facility here are a few tips to make your training phase flow smoother. If you served in active military duty or discharged within the last 3 yrs and it was considered employment, you must provide a copy of your DD214. You will need names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of all of your employers, within the last three yrs. You will need a list of all of your residences, including addresses, for the last five yrs. You will need to list all arrests since your 18th birthday. You must bring the arresting paperwork and proof of court dispositionI cannot stress enough the importance of completing all security paperwork as honestly and as straightforward as you can. Omission on your paperwork is reason for termination of unescorted access.
