8. Upon arrival at the NANIC( North Anna Nuclear Information Center) @ 0600 you will park in the NANIC parking lot.  You will be directed to overflow parking if lot becomes full. You will then be bussed down to the in-processing center.  No personal vehicles will be allowed on site until all training requirements have been met and you are badged.

Innsbrook Technical Center to North Anna

Exit Virginia Power Parking lot and take a right on Waterfront Place. Turn right

on Cox Road at first stoplight. Turn right on Broad Street Road. Turn right on I-

64 west toward Charlottesville.

Take the Gum Springs exit (exit 159) on to Route 522 North (approximately 30

miles) toward Mineral.

Follow Route 522 North into Mineral and turn right on to Route 618. Follow

Route 618 approximately 4 miles (watch for the North Anna Nuclear Information

Center sign) and take a left on to Route 700.

Follow Route 700 (when you approach stop sign - go straight). Follow road

approximately 1/2 mile to the Nuclear Information Center (gray building), on the

right. There will be a Security Guard Station at the Information Center. Security

Officer will direct you to destination.

Travel north on Airport Drive. Follow 295 north to 64 west. Take the Gum Springs exit (exit 159) on to Route 522 North

Follow Route 522 North into Mineral and turn right on to Route 618. Follow Route 618 approximately 4 miles (watch for

the North Anna Nuclear Information Center sign) and take a left on to Route 700.

From Richmond International Airport (about 30 minutes)

Travel north on Airport Drive and exit onto Interstate 64 West.

Pass through the city and look for the Short Pump / Rt. 250 Exit.

Take the first exit (Rt. 250 East), enter Rt. 250 and move immediately to the far left lane.

Turn left at the first traffic light, continue straight and follow company signage.

From Dominion's One James River Center

Circle One James River Center until you reach the side closest to the river. Move to a left lane, go through the traffic light and bear left (Note signs) onto Downtown Expressway.

Follow expressway until it forks into I-64 and I-95. Bear left onto I-64 West.

Look for the Short Pump / Rt. 250 Exit.

Take the first exit (Rt. 250 East), enter Rt. 250 and move immediately to the far left lane.

Turn left at the first traffic light, continue straight and follow company signage.

From Petersburg on Interstate 95 North

Take I-95 North to I-64.

Take I-64 West toward Charlottesville. Continue on I-64 to the Rt. 250 Exit at

Short Pump. Take Rt 250 East (Broad St.). Continue on Broad St. to Dominion

Blvd. Make a left on Dominion Blvd., the office is located at the end of the road.

From Washington on Interstate 95 South

Take the exit onto I-64 West.

Look for the Short Pump / Rt. 250 Exit.

Take the first exit (Rt. 250 East), enter Rt. 250 and move immediately to the far left lane.

Turn left at the first traffic light, continue straight and follow company signage.

From Charlottesville on Interstate 64 East

Take I-64 East to the Rt. 250 East/Broad St. (Exit 178) at Short Pump.

Immediately get in left lane and turn left at first traffic light onto Dominion Blvd.

Continue on Dominion Blvd. until you come to the Virginia Power sign. Stay to the left,

the office will be on the right side.

From Norfolk on Interstate 64 West

Pass through the city and look for the Short Pump / Rt. 250 Exit.

Take the first exit (Rt. 250 East), enter Rt. 250 and move immediately to the far left lane.

Turn left at the first traffic light, continue straight and follow company signage.

From Fredericksburg on Interstate 95 South

Take I-95 South to I-295. Take I-295 toward Charlottesville.

Continue on I-295 to I-64. Take the I-64 East Exit.

Continue on I-64 to the Rt. 250 Exit at Short Pump.

Take Rt 250 East (Broad St.). Continue on Broad St. to Dominion Blvd.

Location

North Anna Power Station is located on the southern shore of Lake Anna in Louisa County, Virginia, about 40 miles from Richmond, Virginia.

 

History

Both Units are owned by Dominion Virginia Power (88.3%) and the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (11.7%), which is a principle subsidiary of Dominion. Unit 1 began commercial operation in June 1978,

Unit 2 in May 1980. On March 20, 2003, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the renewal of NRC Licenses for North Anna. Unit 1 and Unit 2 can operate until April, 2038 and August, 2040, respectively.

 

Output

North Anna Units 1 and 2 are each 921 megawatt pressurized water reactors built by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Together they are capable of producing 17% of Virginia's electricity needs.

 

Recent Performance

Platts Nucleonics Week, an independent newsletter and database subsidiary of the McGraw-Hill Companies, ranked North Anna as the lowest-cost producer of nuclear-generated electricity in in the United States in 2005.

 

Used Nuclear Fuel Storage

North Anna stores used nuclear fuel is stored two ways at North Anna; in a steel-lined, concrete vault filled with water, and in dry containers at the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI). North

Anna’'d5s ISFSI has been in operation since 1998.
