For all folks coming to Byron's Outage, report time is 0630 for your first day. We will be at the Byron Station Training Building. The address is 4450 N. German Church Road Byron, IL 61010. Please read the entries below for details on items needed and dress requirements.
The outage at Byron Station is  scheduled to start on 9/10/2012 and run approximately 24 days. Byron will be bringing Senior and Junior Technicians. If you have compelling shift preference please contact me at elizabeth.roberts@exeloncorp.com with your requests. We try our best to be accomodating but cannot guarentee your request will be honored.  During the outage we will work six twelve's.  Prior to the outage, we typically work five eight's with limited overtime.

As you arrive, you will pick up a site inprocessing folder and will be directed to your first room assignment. In this folder, look for the purple training schedule. This will list all of your classes required prior to badging. Do not be late to classes; no late entries are accepted and you will have to re-schedule. This will delay badging.

If you are going to be late, please call. I will have my cell phone and will check messages regularly. My number is 815-790-1552.

I-9's are expiring so please bring acceptable documentation to complete a new I-9.

The use of cell phone cameras is prohibited on company property, or company sponsored events. Photographing and videotaping on company property, must be in compliance with site security procedures.

Inprocessing Notes and Shifts....

Important notes for new hires:  If this is your first nuclear facility here are a few tips to make your training phase flow smoother. If you served in active military duty or discharged within the last 3 yrs and it was considered employment, you must provide a copy of your DD214. You will need names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of all of your employers, within the last three yrs. You will need a list of all of your residences, including addresses, for the last five yrs. You will need to list all arrests since your 18th birthday. You must bring the arresting paperwork and proof of court disposition.  I cannot stress enough the importance of completing all security paperwork as honestly and as straightforward as you can. Omission on your paperwork is reason for termination of unescorted access.

Transportation Requirements:

It is required that each employee has their own transportation. If you have a issue I must know 2 weeks prior to your start date. If you show up with this issue, you will risk having a shift issue I can't fix.

Shift preference, requested SDO’s and special requests:  In an attempt to accommodate everyone the best I can, I am requesting that you inform me of any special needs and/or requests. If you are traveling with someone and need to be on the same shift or you have other legitimate requests, please inform me at the earliest possible time of those requests. You can email me at elizabeth.roberts@exeloncorp.com. I will make every attempt to honor your request but as you know sometimes it may not be possible. Schedules are developed weeks prior to the outage and I may be unable to adjust, to meet your needs if I am unaware of them until your report date.

Site Info
Byron Generating Station, located near Byron in Northern Illinois, about 90 miles west of Chicago. It’s a two-unit nuclear power facility capable of generating approximately 1,200 net megawatts per unit. Together they can produce enough power to support the electricity needs of over two million average American homes.

Its massive twin cooling towers reach 495-feet into the air, overlooking the scenic Rock River Valley. The two towers help cool the two pressurized water reactors designed by Westinghouse. Units 1 and 2 began commercial operation on Sept. 16, 1985, and Aug. 2, 1987, respectively. The construction cost for the station was approximately $4.5 billion.

Important:
You need 2 forms of ID. One must be a valid government issued photo ID (Valid {NOT EXPIRED} Driver’s License, State ID, or Passport), and the other should be your social security card, or ORIGINAL birth certificate. Senior HP techs must take the Nuclear Utilities Fundamentals Exam (NUF) and pass with a grade of 80% or better, unless you are either an NRRPT “active participant”, or have taken the NUF within the past 4 years and passed with 80%. NRRPT and prior test results must be verified, so bring your NRRPT certificate with you, or know where and when you last passed the NUF, in case it is not recorded in PADS. If we cannot verify your status, you will be required to take the test about midweek.  Juniors will be required to take a theory examMiscellaneous:
Hard hats and safety glasses are available, however if you have your own favorites, they are acceptable as long as they meet ANSI standards.  If you have been issued hardhats at a previous outage, please bring it with you.  No shortpants are allowed in training.  You must have on longpants and a sleeved shirt. Composite toe or Steel toe shoes are required. Work shoes must be worn during in-processing. No Flip Flops or Thong type shoes are allowed, even for arrival and departure.  Scrubs are provided on-site. Personal scrubs are not allowed and scrubs cannot be worn off-site. Bank runs and other off-site errands will be very hard to accommodate during the first couple days of training, especially for non-returnees, as the in-processing schedule for those days is fairly tight.
